*Background- the part or element of the scene that is behind and more distant from the observer than the foreground.
*Close Up- a type of shot which tightly frames a person or an object. Close ups are one of the standard shots used regularly with medium shots and long shots.
*Color- vividness of visual appearance resulting from the presence of brightly colored things.
*Copyright- the exclusive legal right, given to an originator to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same.
* CRW- One of Canon's two proprietary RAW image file formats (CR2 being the other.)
*Documentary Photography- a style of photography that captures both significant and relevant to history and historical events and everyday life.
*Emphasis- an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point.
*Empathy- the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
*Flash Memory Reader- A device that you insert flash memory that transfers the data to the computer. Much faster than the serial port!
*Foreground- the ground or the parts situated or represented in the front; portion of scene closest to the viewer.
*Form- the visible shape or configuration of something.
*Juxtaposition- the act or an instance of placing two or more things side by side often to compare or contrast or to create an interesting effect.
*Gamma- a measure of the response of a given film, developer and development regime to light e.g. high gamma indicates high contrast.
*Karma- the belief that your good or bad actions will affect your future in the same way.
*Long Shot- (some times referred to as a wide shot) is a shot in which the human body or some other relevant object is significantly embedded in the surrounded environment.
*Max Black- The area or object of a black and white picture that appears the closest to solid black; darkest.
*Max White- The area or object of a black and white picture that appears the closest to solid white; whitest.
* Medium Shot- a camera shot in which the subject is in the middle distance, permitting some background to be seen.
*Pan- rotation in a horizontal plane of a still camera or video camera. Panning a camera results in a motion similar to that of someone shaking their head side to side.
*Point of View Shot- a short film scene that shows what a character is looking at represented through the camera.
*Proportion- relationship of two or more elements in a design and how they compare with one another.
*Public Domain- the state of belonging or being available to the public as a whole, and therefore not subject to copyright.
*Rule of Thirds- photos are divided into the third with two imaginary lines vertically and two lines horizontally making three columns, three rows and nine sections in the images. Important compositional elements and leading lines are placed on or near the imagery lines and where the lines intersect.
*Rhythm- Rhythm in photography is repetition of things but in a pattern.
*Social Commentary- the act of using rhetorical means to provide commentary on issues in a society.
*Zoom- a method of decreasing the apparent angle of view of a digital photographic or video image. Digital zoom is usually accomplished by scaling of the image data (usually the center) to have some aspect ratio as well as pixel dimensions being compared to the original.
*Zoom Out- to make an object appear smaller or farther away, or to increase the area in view, by use of a zoom lens or a graphic imaging device
